24-year-old Kali Uchis has taken the music industry by storm with her unique style and alternative flow. Here’s why (and how) this queen of summer jams is such a flame!
Kali’s life wasn’t always glamorous. She was born to Columbian parents who had to flee their home country in the early 90s. This meant that her family had to travel between Columbia and the United States while she was growing up. She was also kicked out of her house when she was 17. Although this was a tough situation, it taught her to be more independent and make her own decisions in life.
How She Glows
In an interview with Fader Magazine, Kali said that she washes her face with hot water, and avoids using face products because they cause her skin to break out. She’s a fan of using natural products such as honey and sugar (for an exfoliating effect). Another one of her favourite hacks is using coconut oil as a face wash as well as a moisturiser. It makes sense right? It’s often best to use natural products for a natural glow!
Steal her Style
Kali’s style is unique, daring and inspired by older eras in fashion, to which she adds her own modern twist. She wears whatever she wants to unapologetically, and has created many of her iconic outfits using second-hand items from thrift stores. Buying your clothing second-hand is a great way to support charity shops in your area and by re-purposing clothing, you’re helping reduce environmental waste. Why she’s a Flame
Kali Uchis is an artist who refused to let her circumstances in life define her choices. It’s safe to say that her success is a result of her genuine belief in her path, and her refusal to let anyone else tell her what to do or who she should be.
“Your situation does not define you. You define yourself. Your current reality is temporary. It is never too late to become a better version of yourself.”
Kali Uchis is the embodiment of self-made. From her humble start, recording tracks in her bedroom, to her now international fame, Kali’s story teaches us that we shouldn’t be afraid to be independent and make our own way in life.
