Social media can be a great tool, when used correctly. However, if it starts to interfere with your studies, then you should think about finding ways to reduce the amount of time you spend on social networks. Need a little help? Here are a few tips.

Monitor time spent on the socials

If you limit the time you spend on social media to about half an hour a day, you’ll find that you have more time to focus on your schoolwork and chores. You’re also more likely to have only the important interactions and catch up on useful updates since you don’t have a lot of time to be scrolling down the timeline mindlessly for hours on end.

Delete apps during exams

Which apps do you feel distract you the most? It’s a good idea to delete them during exams so that you’re not tempted to go online for any reason. You could even go as far as setting data restrictions so that you’re unable to login until you’re done with your exams.

Turn off notifications and alerts

One thing that could make it extra difficult to stay off social media while you’re studying is constantly getting notifications and alerts about friends’ activities and new posts. That’s why we suggest turning off notifications if you know you struggle to concentrate because of social media.

Use social media as a reward

Another method you could apply is using the very thing that distracts you as a reward. For example, you could say that for every section you complete, you get to be on Twitter for ten minutes. This way, you’ll want to finish your tasks because there’s an incentive.

Tell friends when you will be studying

It’s important to let friends know that you’ll be off social media for a certain period of time so that they’re not sending you things or tagging you in funny posts during that time. If anything, your friends shouldn’t be the ones distracting you during exams, and if you find that they aren’t very understanding or supportive then maybe you should talk to them about this.

If you’re unable to find a balance between the amount of time you spend on social media and your studies and house chores, then you should be stricter with yourself by implementing one or more of the tips above. Remember, you can always get in touch with us if you’ve got any questions or comments.
