Be a problem solver

We all encounter problems at work and in our personal lives, but how you deal with those problems is what’s important. Be someone who finds solutions rather than excuses. Being able to solve problems shows that you have great leadership skills and you can handle anything that’s thrown your way.

Take criticism

Criticism is a bitter pill to swallow, but the more you learn to take it, the better you’ll be at your job. Criticism will help you grow in your field of work and it’ll build your character, so just take it with a pinch of salt and see it as a learning curve.

Be reliable

We know that sometimes things happen and you can’t always be available to help others, but if you have the time to step in and help a colleague or your boss, do it. Be the office go-to person that your coworkers can rely on. It’ll show that you know the meaning of teamwork and that you’re dependable. Everyone loves to have someone they can count on.

Be open to learning

Opportunities may arise in the workplace for you to either be trained to do something different, or to apply for a job in a different department. Take those opportunities and run with them. This may be challenging at first and you may doubt your abilities, but don’t see that as a problem - rather see it as a challenge given to you to better yourself.

Set boundaries

It’s okay to be social around the office, but it’s also important to set clear boundaries about how you’d like to be treated. You can do this by simply communicating it without being harsh. Setting boundaries means respecting other people’s boundaries as well. A few examples of this are doing your job and doing it well, not breaking promises and fulfilling your responsibilities as per your contract.
