Affordable financial advice can be hard to get, especially when you’re just starting out. Here are a few ways to get quality financial advice for less.

Chat with your banker

Use your banker’s financial advisor. The financial advisors will offer you a variety of investment and insurance options. Keep in mind that banks may use independent financial advisors. While you may pay a comparable broker fee for the service, your bank may also offer you incentives such as reward points or lower banking fees. Go prepared. Make sure all your questions and concerns are answered before accepting any advice.

Debt counsellor

Debt counselling is provided for in the National Credit Act (NCA), as a debt relief measure. Debt counsellors offer personalised financial advice that’s designed to help you manage your money and debt more effectively and responsibly. Make sure that your debt counsellor is legit by checking whether they’re registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR).

Financial Planning Week

The Financial Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) [annually hosts](https://fpi.co.za/#:~:text=The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) Professional 2022,and 20th of October 2022.) free financial education seminars and free financial planning consultations. The webinars are hosted by experienced FPI members, so make sure that you look out for the next financial planning week convention.

Finance Podcasts

Podcasts are a great way to listen in on conversations about various things. Finance is one of them. Finance podcasts are cheaper to access, and they also tend to have various experts that are invited to share their insights. This is helpful because you get different perspectives on financial topics, which can help you inform your financial decisions. Keep in mind that financial advice should always be personalised and educative. Never go with one opinion. Do your research, explore your option and vet out your financial advisors. You could also consider finding a mentor who has experience building the life you’d like to live- the advice they can give you with regards to your career or starting your own business can be invaluable.

Good luck!
