Be a better planner
The key to getting everything done with your very busy schedule is to be a better planner. Keep track of all your past, present and future tasks by keeping a weekly tracker that helps you review the tasks you’ve completed, ones have made progress with and those you haven’t started yet. You’ll also find that it helps to break larger projects up into smaller goals and give yourself weekly targets and deadlines. Another thing that you can do is find little pockets of time in your day to do things for your side hustle - like sending emails during your commute (if you can), or going through invoices at lunchtime.
See the bigger picture
Having a full-time job and a side hustle can be really tiring and you’re going to find yourself feeling exhausted and discouraged at times. This is why you’ve got to always look at the bigger picture and let that motivate you to keep going. Think about why you started your side business, where you see it going and be willing to put aside the immediate pleasures of going out, watching TV and sometimes even that extra hour of sleep, for something that’s more lasting - financial stability in the future. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s definitely worth it.
You’re going to have to set boundaries with clients, by managing their expectations in terms of deadlines and what you can deliver, from the very beginning. Don’t be afraid to say no to additional work if you’re already swamped, as stretching yourself too thin will affect your ability to deliver great results at work and in your side hustle.
Set clear long and short term goals
You need to have realistic, clear personal and professional goals for the immediate, near and distant future. It’s important to set goals that will benefit your business and your performance at work, as well as to make sure you find ways to measure your progress when it comes to these goals.
Get your priorities straight
Being able to prioritise tasks in order of importance will really help you complete critical tasks first before you do the less urgent work. It also means you’ll always be on top of your game at work and in your business. When planning and prioritising tasks for your day, look for the overlapping tasks - for example if you’ve got to make phone calls for your hustle and for work, it’s better to group those things together.
You can run a successful small business and work a full-time job if you’re organised, clear about your boundaries and willing to make a few sacrifices along the way.
